Charles F. Mullen, O.D., President
Building institutions of quality education, forming national health care policy, and strengthening urban communities through quality optometric and ophthalmic care are just a few of the notable honors that can be attributed to Dr. Charles F. Mullen. After retiring as President of the Illinois College of Optometry, Dr. Mullen served on numerous boards helping to shape federal initiatives. In 2009 he was inducted into the National Optometry Hall of Fame.

Board of Directors
The incorporators currently serve as the initial officers and have established a pro tempore Board.
ABOS expects to have a three member board of directors in place by July 1, 2025. Directors will serve 4 year terms. The board will consist of a combination of:
- Representatives from each member specialty board
- Senior optometrists recognized as having extensive national experience in optometry education, clinical affairs and health administration. This may include ex officio board members representing other national optometry organizations
- At least one non-OD representing the public interest
Finances
ABOS operations are currently supported by donations from members of the Board of Directors and the public.
The American Board of Optometry Specialties, Inc. is recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
